Oasis: Knebworth 1996 Live Album

Another Oasis reco? Couldn't be me!

Fun fact: Today, August 10, and tomorrow, August 11 are the 30th anniversary dates of when Oasis took the stage at Knebworth Park in Hertfordshire, just outside of London. I'm also feeling nostalgic because if you can believe it, we're nearing on two years since the band announced their reunion, and almost a year since I saw them here in LA.

It's as good an excuse as ever to recommend the live record from those two nights, a mash up of recordings from both evenings. The official live record was released in 2021 along with a sibling documentary.

I listen to the record any time I need to feel something, which apparently, is all the time, because I listen to it all the time. The sound engineering is really well done, planting you mentally in the mass of people that gathered to see Oasis at the height of their powers in summer 1996.

The shows included the hits from their then 1 year-old (What's the Story) Morning Glory? and first record Definitely, Maybe, AND it was around this time that they began incorporating tracks from Be Here Now into the rotation, which was released in 1997.

Particular favorite live versions include "Acquiesce," "The Masterplan," a ripping guitar intro on "Don't Look Back in Anger," "Slide Away," "Round Are Way," and "It's Gettin' Better (Man!!!)."

I mean honestly, the entire thing, let's be real. Liam and Noel's banter in between songs is really the best part, too.

Fingers crossed for a 2027 Knebworth date? Let us pray...
